Delaware & Raritan Canal Trail New Jersey

On May 27, 2013 we biked from Frenchtown to Lambertville in New Jersey along the Delaware & Raritan Canal Trail which runs between Rt 29 and the Delaware River.

    The trail parking lot is located in Frenchtown just off the Uhlerstown Frenchtown Bridge.

    Bull's Island Recreation Area is about 9 miles south of our starting point.
  • Bridge to Bull's Island

    This bridge takes you to Bulls Island where there is an information building, and a picnic and camping area.

    Be sure to stop inside for additional information on the area.
  • Bathrooms

    Public bathrooms are located on the north side of the Information building. They have running water and soap.

    This is a great location to take a break before continuing down the trail.

    As you near Stockton you pass a side path to Cravings which is where we usually stop for ice cream. Cravings is the building behind the small building advertising it.

    The red building in this picture has yummy sandwiches and outdoor seating and sits conveniently alongside the trail. At Stockton you are about 12.5 miles south of Frenchtown.

    After passing under Rt. 202, the main trail crosses the bridge to the left.

    We however decided to go straight. This trail is a little rougher than the main trail.

    This trail ends at a parking lot and to get back on the D&L trail you need to turn left at Coryell St. and cross the canal.

    The trail along the canal is narrow and often crowded with people during busy weekends. Don't fall into the canal!

    At Bridge St. in Lambertville you can cross over to New Hope, Pennsylvania, but for us this was the turn around point in our bike ride. We covered a distance of approx. 16 miles.

    This narrow bridge has sharp turns and it is recommended that you walk the bike across it.
