The Levee Loop

On March 30, 2013, we took a walk on a portion of the Levee Loop from the Dansbury Park, East Stroudsburg access to Mill Creek Road and back, a round trip of about 4 miles. Dansbury Park has picnic and play areas for families and a pool in the summertime. On the day that we walked there was only one portable potty available for use. This is both a walking and bicycling trail with surfaces of grass, gravel and macadam that runs along the Brodhead Creek between Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg PA.

Be on the Lookout for Bald Eagles

The first mile or so along the loop trail is unshaded, flat and grass covered, bring sun screen. We were told that there have been bald eagle sightings along this stretch, but, on this day we were not lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these noble birds.

When you arrive at the tree line, you will be walking behind Stroudsburg High School and will pass by a number of baseball fields. Just across a bridge, near the last baseball field there are portable pottys and on the day that we visited both these and the one at Dansbury Park were clean and stocked with paper.

Once you have passed the baseball fields you will enter Yetter Park where there is a nice disk golf course and a lot of shade trees. When we reached Mill Creek Road we turned around. The proposed future route of the Levee Loop will continue across the bridge to the west, but for now Mill Creek is a busy road and the bridge a narrow one with no room for a pedestrian walkway.
