Plainfield Community Recreation Trail ~ Stockertown to Pen Argyl PA
On April 27 2013 we took a ride on the Plainfield Community Recreation Trail the entire trail is 6.9 miles one way.

Parking Lot and Entrance Road
The southern parking area is off of Rt 191/Sullivan Trail just north of Stockertown PA. There is a porta potty here and another portable potty in the Wind Gap access parking lot, near the 4 1/4 mile marker.

Beginning of the Trail
This trail is a nice, easy ride after a long day at work and there have been a number of recent improvements. They have added seating, trash cans and a portable potty and increased safety measures at road crossings.

Plainfield Trail
This fence runs along a steep bank to the right.

Downhill
Since the trail at this point is macadam, you can pick up a nice coasting speed on this slight downhill just past the first intersection.

Rt. 191
Just past the 2 mile marker the trail passes under Rt. 191.

Be aware that this trail passes through areas that are open to hunting.

Skunk Cabbage
Skunk Cabbage flourishes along part of the trail.

Benches
There are benches and picnic tables along this trail, so take a break and enjoy the scenery.

There are a number of bridges crossing streams, but this is unique in that there are two lanes with a bench in the middle.

Road Crossing
The trail crosses a number of roads and some can be very busy at certain times of the day.

Knitters Hill Road
Between 4 and 4.25 miles from the start of our ride we came to the Knitters Hill Road Parking lot and trail access located just a few miles east of Rt. 512 in Wind Gap.

There is a portable potty located in this parking lot.

Grand Central Road
This used to be our turn around point, but they have made improvements to the rest of trail. However, there are still some rough and washed out areas.

Hills
It is along this stretch that the trail becomes hilly.

The last stretch of the trail travels behind Pen Argyl homes and is all uphill.

Pen Argyl Access
If you are accessing the trail from the Pen Argyl end, you need to turn off of Rt. 512 at Buss St.

You will see the parking area a short distance down the road and on your left.

Turn Right
When you approach this fork in the trail, which is a short distance from the Pen Argyl parking lot, you will need to turn right and head downhill to continue towards Stockertown.
